Experience
Sharon Wilke is the Associate Director of Communications for the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. As a communications consultant prior to joining the Belfer Center, she organized and directed publicity and outreach campaigns, coordinated media coverage and produced a range of publications and written materials for corporate and non-profit clients, including the KSG-based Council of Women World Leaders. Previously, she headed the national outreach department at WGBH Educational Foundation’s Descriptive Video Service and has worked as an English teacher, newspaper reporter and television host. She holds a M.A. in Communications from the University of Washington.

Harvard Kennedy School's John P. Holdren Named Obama's Science Advisor

President-elect Barack Obama announced in his radio address Saturday that he has selected Harvard's John P. Holdren to serve as Assistant to the President for Science and Technology in the new administration. The post, popularly known as "the President's science advisor," also includes directorship of the Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Executive Office of the President and requires Senate confirmation.

Rolf Mowatt-Larssen Named Senior Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center

Rolf Mowatt-Larssen, director of the Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence at the U.S. Department of Energy and former head of the Central Intelligence Agency's WMD and terrorism efforts, will join the Harvard Kennedy School Belfer Center as a senior fellow on January 19, 2009.

"Belfer Center Hosts Al Gore 'Solutions Summit' to Design Carbon-free Future"

Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center hosted former Vice President and Nobel Laureate Al Gore and 30 of the United States' top energy and climate experts for a "Solutions Summit" on the climate challenge on October 21-22, 2008. The "Solutions Summit" recipe is one developed by Vice President Gore following a series of Belfer Center brainstorming events in 2005 and 2006 organized by Belfer Center Director Graham Allison and Gore.

The Winter 2008-09 issue of the Belfer Center newsletter features recent and upcoming research, activities, and analysis by Center faculty, fellows, and staff on critical global issues. "What should the next president do first?" is a question raised in this issue. Belfer Center experts respond to the question with advice on what they consider priority issues of national security, climate/energy policy, and the economic crisis.
The Winter 2008-09 issue also features take-aways from the Center’s recent “Acting in Time on Energy Policy” conference hosted by the Energy Technology Innovation Policy research group. In addition, it spotlights Belfer Center Faculty Affiliate Richard Clarke and new Kennedy School Professor Nicholas Burns.

The Summer issue also features calls for action on the economy from economists affiliated with the Belfer Center - Martin Feldstein, Lawrence Summers, Jeffrey Frankel, and Paul Volcker. Additionally, this issue covers a unique "Oil ShockWave" simulation event and much more.

Monica Duffy Toft Named 2008 Carnegie Scholar

Monica Duffy Toft, associate professor of public policy and director of the Belfer Center’s Initiative on Religion in International Affairs, has been named a 2008 Carnegie Scholar by the Carnegie Corporation of New York. Toft is one of 20 scholars to receive the prestigious Carnegie Scholar designation for 2008 "for compelling ideas and commitment to enriching the quality of the public dialogue on Islam."
